Purpose of Membership
Membership in The Grand Lodge of Africa is founded upon the principles of integrity, brotherhood, respect, and service. Every member is expected to embrace these values and contribute positively to the advancement of the Lodge and the communities it serves.
Eligibility for Membership
Membership is open to individuals who satisfy the eligibility requirements established by The Grand Lodge of Africa. Every applicant must demonstrate good moral character, sound judgment, and a genuine desire for personal growth, charitable service, and fellowship.
Voluntary Membership
Membership is entirely voluntary. Every application must be submitted freely and without coercion, inducement, or improper influence. Applicants should seek membership because they sincerely wish to become part of the Brotherhood and uphold its principles.
Application Process
All prospective members must complete the official membership application process, including the submission of the required Petition Form and supporting documentation. Applications will only be considered when all requested information has been received.
Review and Approval
Each application undergoes a careful review in accordance with the Constitution, By Laws, and membership procedures of The Grand Lodge of Africa. Approval is based on merit, eligibility, and the applicant’s suitability for membership rather than personal relationships or external influence.
Confidentiality of Applications
All information submitted during the membership process shall be treated as confidential. Personal information and supporting documents will only be accessed by authorised officers responsible for administering membership matters.
Membership Fees
Successful applicants are required to pay the prescribed Membership Fee before membership can be formally activated. Fees contribute to the administration of the Lodge, member services, charitable initiatives, and operational activities.
Membership Identification
Upon successful registration and confirmation of membership, every member will receive an official Membership Identification Number. This unique identifier serves as the member’s official record within The Grand Lodge of Africa and should be referenced in future correspondence.
Rights of Members
Members in good standing are entitled to participate in authorised Lodge activities, receive official communications, access approved member resources, and enjoy the privileges granted under the governing regulations of The Grand Lodge of Africa.
Responsibilities of Members
Every member is expected to uphold the Constitution, By Laws, policies, and traditions of the Lodge. Members should conduct themselves with honesty, respect, humility, and professionalism in all Lodge related activities and public interactions.
Attendance and Participation
Members are encouraged to participate actively in Lodge meetings, educational programmes, charitable projects, and community initiatives. Regular participation strengthens the Brotherhood and supports the continued growth of the organisation.
Respect for Lodge Authority
Members shall respect the authority of the Grand Master, Grand Officers, Lodge Officers, and all authorised representatives acting within the scope of their official responsibilities. Questions or concerns should be addressed through the appropriate administrative channels.
Ethical Conduct
Members shall avoid behaviour that may bring discredit upon themselves or The Grand Lodge of Africa. Fraud, dishonesty, harassment, discrimination, violence, abuse of authority, or any conduct inconsistent with Masonic principles may result in disciplinary action.
Protection of Confidential Information
Members are expected to safeguard confidential Lodge information, ceremonial matters, membership records, and official communications. Confidential information shall not be disclosed without proper authorisation except where required by law.
Transfers and Affiliations
Members seeking to transfer from another recognised Masonic jurisdiction or affiliate with The Grand Lodge of Africa shall be required to comply with the applicable transfer procedures, provide satisfactory documentation, and obtain any approvals required under Lodge regulations.
Membership Suspension and Termination
Membership may be suspended or terminated where a member fails to comply with the Constitution, By Laws, financial obligations, disciplinary decisions, or other established requirements of The Grand Lodge of Africa. Any such action shall follow the appropriate disciplinary procedures.
Resignation of Membership
A member may voluntarily resign from The Grand Lodge of Africa by submitting written notice through the prescribed administrative process. Resignation does not automatically release a member from any outstanding financial or administrative obligations incurred before the effective date of resignation.
Amendments to Membership Policies
The Grand Lodge of Africa reserves the right to amend or revise its Membership Policy whenever necessary to improve governance, maintain compliance with applicable laws, strengthen administrative procedures, or protect the interests of the Brotherhood.
Compliance with Applicable Laws
All membership activities shall be conducted in accordance with applicable laws while preserving the traditions, customs, and governing principles of Freemasonry. Members are expected to respect both the laws of their jurisdiction and the regulations of The Grand Lodge of Africa.
Acceptance of Membership Policy
By submitting an application for membership or continuing as a member of The Grand Lodge of Africa, every individual acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agreed to comply with this Membership Policy together with the Constitution, By Laws, Code of Conduct, and all other official policies governing the organisation.
